CTT promotes competition “A Tree for the Forest”

15 September, 2020

CTT will promote a competition on its Facebook page “Esfera CTT”, by offering 30 tree mini kits from the “A tree for the forest” initiative to the 30 most inspiring sentences. This competition runs from September 15th to September 19th.

This initiative aims at enabling everyone to participate actively in the plantation of native species in Protected and Classified Zones of our country, especially in the areas most affected by the fires. Therefore, the competition’s theme should be related to the fact that trees capture CO2, protecting us from the climate changes effects, and also help to promote the “zero emissions” trend. The winners will be announced on September 22nd.

The new kit of the 2020 edition is already available. It is the  Fraxinus angustifolia or national ash tree, that may be bought by  3,50 euros,  until December  31st , at 300  CTT post offices scattered all over the country. It can also be bought in our online store at  www.ctt.pt, during the whole year and free of postage charges.

The new kit “A Tree for the Forest” has also a QR Code, with a sound message which broadcasts news and instructions to register the kit on the site www.umaarvorepelafloresta.quercus.pt.

The kits sold are converted into trees and bushes of the native species, as the ash tree, cork tree, holm tree, strawberry tree or the chestnut tree, among many others, which will be planted in Protected or Classified Zones during the Spring of 2021, with the active participation of every volunteer who have registered on the website or  by  sending a mail to  voluntarios@quercus.pt.

This is a special year because with everyone´s contribution, we are about to reach 100 thousand planted trees !  On the other hand, due to the pandemic affecting us all, the foreseen plantations for this new campaign will also include 8,000 trees which could not be planted during March 2020. Every plantation is organized on the ground by  Quercus, in cooperation with  ICNF – Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas. ( Institute for the Preservation of Nature and Forests

Through this partnership with QUERCUS, CTT reinforces its support to biodiversity and fight against climate changes. This policy is part of a carbon neutral ecologic portfolio (Easy mail, DM Eco and Express/Parcels) that invests in carbon and energy efficiency and in the growth of CTT’s sustainable fleet, the largest in the country. This policy also enabled CTT to reduce its carbon footprint in 64% between 2008 and 2019.
