Junior University, an Oporto university project, joins CTT and Quercus in the initiative “A tree for the whole forest”

3 September, 2020

The Junior University, an Oporto University project, joins CTT and Quercus in the initiative “a tree for the whole forest”, a reforestation campaign. For the 7th year in a row, CTT offers at its post offices and online a kit representing a tree that will be planted later, contributing  to the reforestation of native species in protected and specific areas, namely the ones affected by the fires.

The Junior University is participating in the reforestation campaign, and also promoting other educational seasonal campaigns. Therefore, on September 4th, between 09h30 and 12h30, there will be an initiative to clean the Leça river margins and surrounding area (Milheirós da Maia).

It is an area that has been intervened since 2014 to help the ecological rehabilitation of the river flow, which will become the Leça River Park. This cleaning initiative is one of the activities scheduled before building the above mentioned park, and will eliminate all waste (plastic, textiles, metals, etc.) found in this area (around 3 acres).

Registrations are free, and the children and families may participate if previously registered at the Junior University website. All vacation programs at Junior University are ruled by the Covid 19 recommendations and legislation regarding summer camps, issued by the Youth Institute and the General Health Service.

Also in the scope of this partnership, the Junior University will soon invite all university public (around 7 thousand people) to participate in a reforestation initiative, “a tree for the whole forest”, which will require a previous registration and that will include one “a tree for the whole forest” kit for each registration.

In the 2020 “a tree for the whole forest” edition there will be a new kit on the Fraxinus angustifolia species, that can be purchased for 3.50€ until December 31st in 300 CTT post offices, and all year long with free shipping fees online at www.ctt.pt.
