CTT test Urban Arrow cargo bike

28 October, 2020

CTT is performing tests with an ecologic vehicle, an Urban Arrow bike, Cargo Bike, provided by the The Fietsen Shop. The aim is to evaluate its integration in the CTT’s operational and delivery model, reinforcing the company’s contribution to the preservation of the environment.

This is an unusual high-loading capacity vehicle in Portugal. Currently, CTT’s electric bicycles’ fleet counts on 136 active units. As a pioneer in the integration of electric vehicles in its automobile fleet and constantly innovating its products, CTT already owns the major Portuguese ecologic fleet in the logistics area, with 315 vehicles.

According to Miguel Salema Garção, Sustainability and Communications’ Director, “we have been focusing part of our efforts at the measures with social impact and support to society as regards sustainability, namely in the reinforcement of our commitment towards climate changes, in line with the progress already achieved. To understand these vehicles’ adaptability to the CTT service and choose the best options is our next goal. It is important to note that in 2019 CTT reduced 27.5% of its carbon emissions and 2.5% of energy consumption, namely electric energy”.

Apart from the tests made to other electric vehicles by CTT, and due to the recent repositioning of the CTT brand, the fleet’s image has been recently updated. For eco vehicles there is now a small detail in green, investing in a more dynamic image, with more impact to customers and partners (image above).

The aim of these tests is to reinforce our ecologic fleet and the commitment of getting more involved with sustainability, thinking about everyone’s future. This attitude is put into practice everyday by innovating the processes, the products, technology and various initiatives that create value to the community. We want to share our effort with the Portuguese people.

CTT offered the Green Deliveries service during the pandemic crisis to corporate customers, enabling all deliveries to be made  exclusively with CTT electric vehicles. The company has also taken several measures to support biodiversity and fight climate changes through an ecologic carbon neutral portfolio (easy mail, DM Eco and Express/parcels), and investing in carbon and energy efficiency, thus reducing its carbon footprint in 64% between 2008 and 2019.
